Choosing Between Different Countertops

Granite and marble are the most popular choices of countertops material. However, there are other options for countertop materials as well. Some of the other materials that have been used for countertops are formica, ceramic tiles and corian.

When the time comes for designing the kitchen and choosing a  countertop material, homeowners always wonder what is the best countertop material for kitchen applications.

There are several materials that have been used to craft kitchen countertop material over the past few years. However, the best kitchen countertops are made of marble and granite.

The advantage of using formica for a countertop is that it is easy to maintain and clean. However, formica  countertops cannot take very hot objects on their surface. In addition, this kitchen countertop does not look as good or elegant as the marble or granite countertops.

A lot of older apartments have countertops that are made of ceramic tiles. However, the disadvantage of this countertop is that the grouts easily gather dirt and need to be frequently cleaned. The advantage of ceramic tiles for kitchen countertops is that it is very durable and stain resistant.

Corian, which is made using acrylic and or polyester plastic, are available in a wide variety of colors and is a choice for countertops. In fact, some of the corian tiles are made to simulate granite.

Despite the wide availability of several other materials for countertops, granite and marble are still the more preferred materials. The reason for this is that marble and granite countertops are very durable and can withstand a lot of activity.
