Caring For Marble Counters

Marble is a material that is used very often for creating beautiful kitchen countertops. Pure white marble for a kitchen countertop makes the kitchen appear a lot larger and brighter. It also makes a home look more elegant.

Although marble is a very popular material used in creating kitchen countertops, it gets easily scratched, stained, discolored, and permanently scarred. Proper maintenance is required to ensure that a marble countertop is able to maintain its sheen and luster for several years.

All that a marble countertop requires is a little extra care and attention to ensure that the surface of the countertop kitchen remains as good as new. Small scratches on the surface of the marble can be cleaned and repaired as long as they are not too severe.

The first step towards maintaining the marble kitchen countertop is by making sure that the countertop has been sealed with a protective coating. As marble is a naturally porous stone, it gets stained and discolored easily.

Another way to keep the surface of the marble countertop clean and looking new for a long time is by protecting the surface by using coasters. This will minimize any accidental scratching of the surface of the marble kitchen countertop.

However, no matter how careful an individual is the surface of the marble countertop is likely to get dirty. A way to clean it is by wiping down the surface with a damp cloth or soft sponge. The surface needs to be buffed till the marble shines.

If the surface of the marble has accumulated dirt over a considerable period of time then individuals can clean the surface with a damp cloth sprinkled with a small amount of powdered borax. This will get the surface of the kitchen countertop shining again.

Protecting the surface of the marble with a sealant is an excellent way to protect the investment of the countertop. Individuals who move into a home that already has a marble countertop but are not sure when the sealant was last applied can go ahead and try and apply another coat of sealant. This will not harm the surface of the marble.

Marble scratches very easily, however, the surface level scratches are fairly easy to remove. Individuals can remove the scratches by gently sanding away the surface scratches with fine-grained sandpaper. After gently sanding the marble , the surface needs to be polished with a commercial marble polish. This will get the surface of the marble gleaming like new once again.
